Spatial WA

Spatial WA is a whole of government program which will revolutionise the way we plan, design, test, collaborate and innovate using a highly accurate virtual environment. Access to timely, authoritative data is essential for Government operations, whether responding to natural disasters, managing our resources, developing property or planning, building and maintaining infrastructure – spatial data is fundamental to these activities.

Spatial WA, led by Landgate and developed in consultation with more than 30 Government agencies, will deliver a digital, spatially accurate representation of the built and natural environment – known as an Advanced Spatial Digital Twin.

Spatial WA will streamline access to data and enable users to generate analytical insights, run predictive modelling, and streamline digital workflows, with the potential to unlock significant savings for the State.

Spatial WA will deliver an Advanced Spatial Digital Twin, providing Government with a common environment to visualise the real world, collaborate on projects, maintain data and improve planning and investment. Digital Twins provide the tools for Government and community to come together, to generate insights about a location that support the planning and investment of new services, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Spatial WA will ensure Western Australia maximises this technology to deliver the priorities of the State.

The program will be rolled out across four priority use cases in partnership with agencies. These use cases will demonstrate benefits for:

• Infrastructure projects and asset management
• Digital approval workflows for development application referrals
• Coordinated management of administrative land boundaries
• Exposure modelling for emergency management, prevention and preparedness

More than 250 potential uses for the technology have already been identified, benefiting multiple agencies and industries. These further opportunities will be explored following the initial rollout.

Initially, Spatial WA will be used by WA State Government agencies to address the challenges identified within these priority use cases. Once these use cases have been delivered, the program will be expanded to enable public and private sector use.

The WA State Government has allocated Spatial WA $140 million in funding over ten years to improve Western Australia’s digital capabilities to accelerate land development approvals and streamline the delivery of key infrastructure projects.

Once demonstrated, Spatial WA will scale and expand to enable public and private sector to use the Advanced Spatial Digital Twin - ultimately becoming a single location to discover, access and use Government data.
